ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING
Laser Metal Fusion
in German "Pulverbettbasiertes Laserschmelzen" ("Powder bed based laser melting").
Is an additive manufacturing process based on a powder bed? The part to be manufactured is prepared in advance using slicer software and it is possible to generate support structures. The slicer cuts the part into individual layers depending on the desired layer thickness and a two-dimensional sectional view is generated. A coater blade, also known as a recoater, applies metal powder from a powder chamber to a building panel in layers. The laser scans this two-dimensional object geometry and welds the powder to the building board or an existing layer. In this way, the component is created step by step.
The process is already a welcome alternative in many sectors, such as medical and dental technology, the watch and jewellery industry, tool and mould making, the automotive industry and the aerospace industry.
